• The calculators run in your browser. What you type isn't sent to us or stored.

Who we are

Proper Estimate (properestimate.com) is a free website of building calculators, run by an independent developer ("we", "us"). Questions about this policy or your data: hello@properestimate.com.

The calculators

Every calculation happens in your browser. The sizes, prices and other numbers you enter aren't sent to us, saved or shared. If you follow a link that carries a deck size in its address, such as the button on the home page, that address is requested from our host like any other page.

Visitor statistics

We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, to see which pages people use. It doesn't use cookies or any other way of identifying you, and it doesn't follow you to other websites. For each page view it records the page, the page you came from, your browser and device type, and your country, and we only see these as totals.

Hosting and security

Cloudflare hosts the site and protects it from attacks. To deliver pages and block abuse, it processes technical details of each request, such as your IP address, browser and the page requested, and may keep them in logs for a short time. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Email

If you write to us, your message is forwarded to our mailbox, which Google hosts. We use your email address and message only to reply, and keep them only as long as that needs; ask us and we'll delete them.

Cookies

We don't set cookies ourselves. Google sets cookies for the ads described below, only after you agree where the law requires consent.

Advertising

This site shows ads from Google AdSense, which is how the calculators stay free. Google and its partners may use cookies, web beacons and similar technology to show and measure ads.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and out of many other vendors' cookies at aboutads.info.

• In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, Google's consent message asks before ad cookies are used, and you can change your choice at any time from the privacy settings link it adds to the page.
• If you live in a US state that lets you opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted ads, you can do so through Google's Ads Settings and the opt-out pages above.

Why we use this data

For visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running, protecting and improving a free website and in answering messages, and your consent for ad cookies.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask what personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, by writing to hello@properestimate.com. We collect almost nothing that identifies you, so usually the only thing to find is an email you sent us. In the European Economic Area and the UK you can also object to how we use your data and complain to your data protection authority. We don't sell personal information.

Children

The site is meant for adults planning building work. It isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Where data is processed

Cloudflare and Google process data in the United States and other countries, under their own safeguards for international transfers.

Changes

When this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top. If we start using data in a new way that needs your consent, we'll ask first.
